My name is Mariangeles Rolando. I am 27 years old. I was born in Cordoba, Argentina where I grew up and lived till the year 2012. I have a major in English Literature, and in Cordoba, I used to teach English Language at a bilingual school.
It is funny how things come around. When I was in elementary school and middle school I used to hate English (we speak Spanish in Argentina), I used to hated it whenever we had English classes at school. For me it was so difficult and boring too. But then, because I was almost failing at school, my parents decided that it was time to send me to a private institute where they would help me with English. I still kind of hated it but I got better at school. After going to that English institute (called English World -I can’t believe I still remember the name) I decided to go to a bilingual school. This school is called IICANA (which in Spanish it stands for Institute of Cultural Exchange Argentinean American). I loved it! I absolutely loved studying English! I learned to love the language and it became my passion. So much so that I decided to keep on studying English at University, so I took a major in English Literature and English Teaching).
If you are still reading me, and haven’t left because you got bored or thought “Why is she saying all that which has no relation to fitness whatsoever?”, or if you did think that but you are still with me, I will tell you know how that relates to my fitness journey.
I said it is funny how things come around, yes, they are indeed. Even though I practised figure skating for over 10 years (Started when I was 8 and my last year was when I turned 18)thanks to which I traveled to so many places in Argentina for competitions, and thanks to which I have lots of trophies that are still at my parents’ living room; even though figure skating was my passion at that time, I absolutely hated, with all my heart Physical Education at school. So I struggled with PE all my years of middle school and high school. And I was so happy when it was over! So happy that when my sneakers broke, I just tosed them and thought “I don’t need them any more because I will never workout again in my life” (year 2005, I was weighing around 200 lbs).
The years that followed, I was so stressed because of all that I had to study at university that I paid little to no attention to what I was eating or drinking. In 2007 I started working as a teacher at IICANA (the institute where I studied English) and I loved it. I knew then that I wanted to be a teacher forever. I had a very hectic schedule: working, studying and then working again, so I would eat at school or somewhere on my way to work, and I started gaining weight.
Three years later, in 2010, I became concious about my weight when I wanted to wear jeans and I could not find any that would fit. I was weighing 300 lbs. I had gained 100 lbs in 3 years of poor eating and no excercise whatsoever. So I decided it was time to make a change in my life.
